Westchester County Airport located in White Plains is easily reached from anywhere in the County. The airport's new and modern passenger terminal offers corporate, commercial and general aviation services, and access to 640 commercial flights daily, servicing over one million passengers per year. It contains two runways, a 41,00 square-foot terminal, a 1,100-space parking garage and 13 hangars on 697 acres along the Connecticut state line in central Westchester. Commercial service is available to many cities, including Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. with major carriers such as American, Continental, Northwest, United, and USAir. Additionally, the airports, JFK International, LaGuardia Newark and Stewart are within a one-hour drive from Westchester County. The County's Bee-Line Bus system is an award-winning public/private sector operated system and the fourth largest system in New York State, with more than 300 buses daily on more than 50 routes. It primarily serves Westchester County with connecting services to Bronx subways, Metro-North Railroad, Putnam County transit, Transport of Rockland's Tappan ZEExpress and Connecticut Transit's I-Bus. It also provides "shuttle loops" connections between major employment centers and train stations in the County. MTA Metro-North Railroad is one of the finest commuter rail systems in the world, with three lines serving Westchester County: the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines. It provides extensive, on-time service for some 100,000 daily commuters in 44 stations throughout the County. Metro North's major hub is Grand Central Terminal in midtown Manhattan, which is approximately under an hour to less than 25 minutes from Westchester. Amtrak provides long-distance passenger service on two of the three Metro-North lines in Westchester: the Hudson and the New Haven. Frequent service on Amtrak directly links Westchester to cities throughout the Northeast corridor and across the U.S. and Canada. Virtually every major highway has been completely reconstructed over the last 10 years at a cost of more than one billion dollars. The net result is an extensive network of expressway, parkways and highways that is well designed and maintained, making Westchester's highway network one of the best fully modernized in the nation. There are three major interstate highways that are part of the New York State Thruway System, and various Parkways such as the Hutchinson River, Saw Mill River, Cross County, Sprain Brook, Taconic State and the nation's first. Bronx River Parkway. From central Westchester it takes only 30 minutes to midtown Manhattan; 35 minutes to northern New Jersey; 35 minutes to long Island; 20 minutes to southwestern Connecticut; and 3 hours to Boston.
